Christmas Around The World
Many cultures have traditional foods baked around chrismas, like the French "Buche de Noel" or gingerbread men and women which are decorated and hung on the chrismas tree. Many families also prepare egg nog or pfeiffermäuse (spiced cookies rolled in powdered sugar. All those pastries are probably a sign of feasting that the fasting is now over (much like the festival after Ramadan is over, and have little to do with Chrismas in the first place)
At Christmas, every country does different things.
In Mexico, children play a game called "Pinata" on Christmas day. They are blindfolded and try to hit and break a hanging jar with a stick. The winner gets a special prize, and the sweets are shared out. The jars are decorated with tinsel and filled with sweets.
In New Zealand, sometimes they use a blossoming tree called "Pohutukawa" instead of the traditional Christmas fir tree.
In Australia, they bring their Christmas dinner to a sandy beach instead of having it at home. They eat roast turkey, Christmas pudding and mince pies. They also have a lovely flower called the Christmas bell. It is a bell-shaped yellow bloom surrounded by bright green leaves.
